Oscar De La Hoya Sets Contract Deadline for Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Fight

Golden Boy Promotions owner and CEO Oscar De La Hoya set a Monday deadline for contract negotiations between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia in a tweet on Sunday.

He then took a shot at Premier Boxing Champions:

It appeared back in November that a deal between Davis and Garcia was finalized and ready to go:

Davis also said after a Jan. 7 victory over Héctor García that he was ready to face Ryan Garcia.

"God willing, I'm ready for the fight," he said. "It's scheduled for April. He's been training; he's been talking."

Garcia seemed just as willing:

The belief has been that the two fighters would face off on April 15 in Las Vegas, in what would be a highly anticipated lightweight clash.

Davis, 28, is a perfect 28-0 in his professional boxing career and currently holds the WBA lightweight title. The 24-year-old Garcia is equally perfect, going 23-0 in his career.

One additional factor is that Davis has a court date in February for an alleged hit-and-run dating back to Nov. 2020. He was accused of fleeing the scene and is facing 14 charges, per ESPN's Mike Coppinger, which include failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury.

Davis also was arrested in December and charged with battery domestic violence after allegedly slapping a woman with a closed hand.

The woman in question has since said the boxer "did not harm me or our daughter" and that she "made an unnecessary call to law enforcement in an intense moment while I was frantic," saying her relationship with Davis was in a fragile state and both parties were responsible for the argument.
